Chefs Pick Their Favorite Restaurant for 2006

Chefs Reveal Their Favorite Restaurant for 2006

People frequently ask us, "how do you pick the restaurants you choose to create videos for?" One important way is by asking chefs and restaurateurs, who are understandably passionate about food and the dining experience, for recommendations. In our first eight months of being online, we've interviewed hundreds of chefs and restaurateurs for videos for our Savory New York, Savory San Francisco, and soon to launch Savory Chicago sites. As you might imagine, some restaurants were mentioned more frequently than others. It came as no surprise to hear that New York City chefs like to spend time at popular late night hangouts like Blue Ribbon, Lupa or Momofuku Noodle Bar. What did surprise us was the frequency with which one place kept coming up. No matter what city we were in, chefs went crazy for one casual Manhattan spot in 2006. Check out the video below to find out the winner of our informal and highly unscientific 2006 Top Chef Recommendation poll.

Next week we'll be launching a "preview" version of our new Savory Chicago site. We thought it would be a good idea to share what we've put together so far and get your feedback for suggested additions. In the mean time you can get a preview of our preview by visiting Savory Chicago and watching our new video for Alinea, which was named Gourmet Magazine's top restaurant for 2006.
