Earth Day Picks

For those of you reading this in the Bay Area we recommend heading up to the first-ever Eat, Drink & Be Green event this Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Iron Horse Vineyards in Sebastopol. Special spring tastings of Green Valley wines will be available from DeLoach, Dutton Estate, Dutton-Goldfield, Emeritus, Hartford Court, Iron Horse, Marimar Estate and Orogeny Vineyards. There'll also be plenty of great food and music as well as a seed exchange and guest speakers like John Scharffenberger of Scharffen Berger Chocolate. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online. Proceeds from the event will go to the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation, National Geographic Society, Rainforest Action Network and the Leakey Foundation. For more information on the event you can watch a video featuring Iron Horse vintner Joy Sterling.

A great non food-related event also happening in the Bay Area this weekend is the Green Apple Music and Arts Festival which features performances by Willie Nelson, Bob Weir and Rat Dog and Xiu Xiu. The festival also lands in Chicago, where The Decemberists, Andrew Bird and Mad Professor will be playing, and in NYC where  Charlie Hunter, The Radiators, Assembly of Dust and John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers will be hitting stages around town.

Those of us here in New York can look forward to a break in the weather this weekend. That just might make grabbing an organic refresher and heading to Central Park to take in the epic story of New York City's water supply your best bet.

Cap off the afternoon by stopping by Fiamma Osteria to join Laura Maniec, director of wine and spirits, host  an Earth Day Organic Wine Tasting from 1-3pm.  For $10, you can taste eight donated organic wines. 100% of the event's proceeds will be donated to the City Parks Foundation of New York City.
