Just this past week Michelin released its 2009 Bay Area restaurant guide and, as usual, Bibendum was majorly stingy with the coveted two and three star ratings. Once again The French Laundry scored the lone three star accolade and a mere five restaurants were bestowed with the 2-star "worth a detour" label.
Among those five was the Restaurant at Meadowood, a fine dining restaurant with a chef and staff that focuses on guest happiness above all else. The executive chef, Christopher Kostow, who trained under Daniel Patterson (Coi, SF) and Daniel Humm (Eleven Madison Park, NYC) first earned two Michelin stars at Chez TJ in Mountain View last year. Kostow, who is nothing if not intense, applies a focus and rigor to his cuisine that is rare among young American chefs. It's an intensity that leads you to believe Kostow won't settle for anything less than three stars next year.
