Take a stroll down memory lane, and then some, over at Restaurant-ing Through History, the pet project of amateur restaurant historian Jan Whitaker. Working from an extensive collection of old postcards, menus and books, Whitaker chronicles the what, who and how of eating out from the mid-18th century through the latter part of the 20th. In addition to informative posts on a variety of topics, including the history of the waffle and the story of Maxwell's Plum, you'll find a list of food prices dating from 1833 to 1976 and a diverse list of recipes featuring classics like Trader Vic's "Scorpion" and Brown Derby's Hamburger de Luxe. Given current obsessions it may seem like some things never change.
