Earlier this week NBC's local Chicago station published a story about how Chicago vegetarian restaurant Green Zebra is offering yoga classes in its private dining room and serving up healthful post-workout snacks after class.

Every Tuesday starting March 31 and continuing through May 5, Green Zebra will host a series of five one-hour yoga classes in the restaurant's upstairs private dining room. Accomplished local yoga instructor Sarah Barnes will lead the Vinyasa yoga classes at 8PM each week. Participants will be treated to a healthy post-workout treat prepared by Green Zebra chef de cuisine Molly Harrison after each session. The series will culminate with a communal dinner at the restaurant on Tuesday, May 5.

Green Zebra isn't the first high-end restaurant to combine yoga and dining. Frank Bruni favorite Ubuntu in Napa Valley has offered yoga classes in its upstairs space since it opened in 2007.

With all the creative re-use of space going on these days is it only a matter of time before a NYC fine dining restaurant reaches out to the yoga set?

Dirt Candy owner and chef Amanda Cohen has put time in at some of NYC's most acclaimed vegetarian restaurants, including Pure Food and Wine and the now shuttered Heirloom (one of our first videos - watch it below). "I like cooking with vegetables because they allow me to work with more subtle flavors and more complex, layered tastes," says Cohen. Dishes include portobello mousse with truffled pear and fennel compote and carrot risotto with carrot dumplings and parmesan curls (see the full menu below). Debbie Lee, formerly of P*Ong, in is charge of the eclectic dessert menu with options like popcorn pudding with hazelnut caramel corn. As you might expect, the 18-seat Dirt Candy is certified by the Green Restaurant Association and is made of recycled and sustainable materials.
