The food at this lovely new restaurant is so unique and so delicious it blew me away. Get into this place before it becomes one of those spots where you can't get a reservation.
Melissa Fox owner and chef of 'A Casa Fox' is the real deal. South American food has been type cast- there are staple foods you'll always find - like rice and beans- but when the product is fresh, energized and personalized, It's is like being at a really good friend's house. From the roast duck quesadillas with mango salsa to the addictive empanadas, (you can eat several small ones (more fun: it's like a tasting menu) or order one that is a sizable meal. Service was attentive and helpful, great music and a foodie crowd, mixed age range. You can eat marinated herb chicken by the fire place or sit by the window and eat a flavorful stew served in clay pots from Nicaragua. The designer, Nicole Bartelme choose Cuban tiles to draw you into this South American food mecca - warm wood tones, copper reflections, an carmel colored bar to sit at and watch the secrets of the open kitchen. Ms. Fox's food and creations bring South American food to a higher level- the same way French food is now lighter, the heavy hand often found in South American food does not exist here.
Great atmosphere and incredible food; the empanadas were sublime as were the pork short ribs. Can't wait for Winter as they have a wood burning fireplace!
The food was excellent! Had the emapanda tasting, risotto croquettes and calamari with chorizo which were all excellent. For the entree we shared the ribs which came wich black beans and rice, it was delicious! The service was very attentive and friendly, can't wait to go back!
fantastic food. warm atmosphere. great date place or with friends. it's nice to share plates, that way you get to try everything and believe me, you'll want to try EVERYTHING!
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!! The food was nothing special. Too expensive for poorly cooked rice and beans. Expect a long wait for food in an overcrowded room and no personality from waitresses.
I had a good meal here - soulful, and I would make it my neighborhood destination if I lived closer. It's a touch of class on the lower east side that's not pretensious.
Visited A Casa Fox for the first time... wonderful experience! The food was fresh and so flavorful without hiding the taste of the main ingredient. From the empanadas to the croquettes to the short ribs, homemade hot sauce and yummy dessert empanadas... everything was absolutely delicious. The owner/chef, Melissa (pronounced Ma-lee-sa) is great... it's like you're having dinner in her home... very welcoming and friendly. Will definitely go back soon!
