Critic Reviews

When [chef] Sugie does pull off the acrobatics, it can be marvelous. - Amanda Hesser

New York Magazine star star Critic's Pick

[Chef] Sugie's menu is so filled with eye-widening surprises, Asiate could seat folks on the Time Warner Center's loading dock and Sugie would still rank as the most exciting new chef in town. - Hal Rubenstein

Time Out New York Critic's Pick

The first treat is the view - sweeping vistas down Central Park South and over the park itself - the second is the food, a prix-fixe menu of dressed-up, French...

Repas médiocre mais service SUPERBE! Asiate is one of the very few restaurants offering customer service everyone of us should have a chance to experience. Upon the completion of a credit card transaction, NEVER have I witnessed a patron being addressed by their last name as they are thanked and welcomed to come again with such sincerity. "Thank you for joining us today, Ms. X! Please come and visit us again!" What could have possibly been a below average dining experience is skillfully turned into something more amenable and satisfying given just that little courtesy. The service provided during the meal was attentive but nonintrusive. I personally cannot rave about the food. It was good but nothing really memorable. I started with a warm crab & pasta dish (which was lovely), followed by the coconut-encrusted chicken breast as an entrée. The combination struck me as interesting, but it reminded me of one of those Tyson frozen chicken meals. My dining companion thought her meal superb. She began with the sashimi appetizer, which was rich in color, taste, and texture. For her main dish she had shad (which was nicely cooked) accompanied by herb-flecked spaetzle and some skinny asparagus. She was not too keen of the chocolate mousse, while I thought my crème brûlée excellent! We did a NYC's Restaurant Week luncheon here. While some restos have been accused of not providing a "full" restaurant experience, at no time could such an accusation be levied against Asiate. The menu they offered matched the one being offered year-round. In fact, the bonus you get during Restaurant Week is the dessert! We recommend this resto if for nothing else but for the view and its impeccable service.

A delux Asian inspired French, with food that never matches the outstanding decor and views. Top notch service.
