Balthazar is [Keith McNally's] masterpiece, an evocation of a Paris brasserie that outglows anything within Brie-tossing distance of the Seine. - Hal Rubenstein
Not only is the iconic Balthazar still trendy, but the kitchen rarely makes a false step. At dinner, the place is perennially packed with rail-thin lookers dressed...
the brunch is highly overrated and filled with tourists. the bloody marys are weak. dinner is an improvement but you can find better spots for the price.
My boyfriend and I have been going to Balthazar since day one! We just LOVE LOVE LOVE this French bistro. Every time we've gone there, our meal has been right on the money. The food, the wine, the ambiance, and the service is always impeccable. After a very delicious meal, we venture to Bar Veloce wine bar (located on 17 Cleveland Place, between Spring/Kenmare) for dessert or a bottle of wine, or a spectacular nutello panino. The two locations are close to each other and very convenient for us!
Had breakfast here with some friends, the food was basic, tasted good. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. Very cool setting, and they were prompt to seat us with no reservations.
we live in san francisco & always make a point of a meal at balthazar on our annual excursion to nyc so we were exited to have dinner there last week. although the maitre d was lovely, the waiter virtually ignored us.
the food has become mediocre-- my husbands dish was just all right but mine was soggy fries and tough steak (frites). doubt we we ever return, which is a pity.
