Its heyday is past, but crowds still flock to this converted diner, perhaps because its sidewalk seating still makes for good people-watching and caipirinha sipping....
Coffee shop is not your typical coffee shop. The first difference you'll notice if you go at night, for example, is the bouncer. It's a strange diner/lounge hybrid but I think I like it -- the food is surprisingly good (I've been a few times and I always like the fajita) and even though the crowd is a little tiresome, and all of the waitresses are models trying to make it in the city – which is even more tiresome, something keeps me from staying away. Go with friends on a night when you decide to go out last minute around Union Square, but don't know where to start.
the food here can easily be thrown together by anyone, but the concept of a diner staffed almost entirely with models and actors is still unique to the coffee shop. it's a decent central place to meet up with your friends before heading out to the next spot.
