James, tucked among residential buildings in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, is the kind of modest, warm refuge produced by a chef who wants to simplify things. - Frank Bruni

Deep in the brownstones of Prospect Heights, away from the cafes of Flatbush and Vanderbilt Avenues, with their homelier crowds and everyday fare, James glows like a well-kept campfire, luring diners to an otherwise quiet residential block. - Mike Peed

I went on a packed Saturday night. The space is small (I don't know about 30 tables?), however, we sat at the bar and didn't have enough time to finish a glass of wine before we were seated. James is small, however, such an impeccably beautiful space that it was elegant, yet comfy AND affordable. The wait /bar staff treats everyone like a rock star. A great date spot or night out with the pals, and I wouldn't feel weird about eating at the bar alone. You can show up in jeans or put on your heels! We were "blessed" with a tasting menu.... mmmmmm-mmmmmh! Everything was excellent. But what sticks out in my mind was this white asparagus with goat cheese and a hint of shiso (it was sublime!), the sweet breads and the skate. The food was filling, yet, light (we left totally awed and satisfied). The dishes were unpretentious, clean and true flavors to the ingredients. Seriously, in my top ten spots to eat. I can't wait to go again.

This is a perfect neighborhood, corner restaurant with a beautiful interior. The space is noisy, but not too loud, which i like. My loin of lamb was cooked to perfection and our dessert (a small chocolate cake infused with caramel and a scoop of hazelnut ice cream) was fantastic in its simplicity. I whole heartedly recommend this restaurant.
