Critic Reviews

The showstopper is a 10-course kaiseki menu ($120) that must be ordered the day before and takes all evening to consume. It's a dazzling display of ingredients rarely seen outside Japan, or at least Midtown. - Oliver Schwaner-Albright

Kyo Ya specializes in kaiseki, a form of cuisine said to have originated in sixteenth-century Kyoto, initially as an accompaniment to the tea ceremony. - Leo Carey

delicate dishes in a serene subterranean den unassumingly tucked away in east village. kurobuta kakuni (pork belly) is decadent and ebi shinjo (shrimp mousse w/rice crackers) is innovative. good sake selection.

absolutely beautiful space, especially the bathrooms. Every attention to detail is taken. The food was very fresh but the portions are very small for the price
