The Pig is more Chez Panisse than Corner Bistro - a convivial place to have a pint, sure, but also a wonderful place to eat. - Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld
Blame consulting chef Mario Batali and talented toque April Bloomfield for the inevitable wait at this still-hopping West Village gastropub. The burger is a must...
I wish I could go here and order something other than the burger. April's food is great. Sometimes, I'm able to persuade my dining companion to order apps with me and split the burger but when I've finished my half, I regret that I didn't have a whole one to myself.
Definitely one of the best meals I have ever had. The Sheep Ricotta Gnuti was an astounding start with the most luscious brown butter and sage sauce. The oysters with mignonette and the chicken livers and toast were also very good, but the gnuti was to die for.
My entree was the pork Faggots with mustard and fresh peas. Beautifully seasoned and satisfying. We also ordered the delicious turnips and rabe.
We are very happy that we made a point of dining at the Spotted Pig for our first ever trip to New York City. We cannot wait to go back.
The burger was bomb, I dont know what mixture of meat went into it but unlike Seattle when you order your burger medium rare it comes out that way. April Bloomfield's touch was present in the fresh rosemary that was fried along with the shoe string potatoes.
i was super toasted from a day at the ICC but it was a great meal and a fun and funky place. i had the burger and fritz. the white horse is next door (which contributed to my condition) and we waited there over an hour for a table at the "Pig" but it was worth it. our table got a selection of the offorings and shared, super! way to go Chef.
