German restaurants are a dying breed on Long Island. It was therefore a cause for celebration when the Village Lanterne opened in Lindenhurst in late October. - Joanne Starkey

Hello well we really had very very high expectations, thinking we finally found a real good German place..Boy were we wrong!!! you can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig. except for the really nice beer and barmaid we spoke with the rest of the night was not good.We had a very young server "Alex" totally did not get it,no follow thru. Asked for some additional bread, was told they ran out but tables coming in after us received bread I hope to hell not recycled from other tables. Our openers were at best fair. pancakes were oily and my crabcakes had to go back to be reheated and still tasted manufactured. no water was ever brought to the table or offered.waited a little longet then expected for the main dishes and those were not at a reasonable serving temp either, when asked if they served authentic german potatoe balls we were told yes only to receive bland dumplings not good my food was also very bland cold and overall not good had 1 desert between 2 and left 90% of it the coffee was also very very bad. And to top it off they had some very very off key musicians there who were clearly stuck on 80s soft rock no a good way to have a german good time we wont be back we had reall hoped for more

It was a very enjoyable experience eating at this restaurant. The food was very good as was the service. The place was small but comfortable. The live music added to the ambience and more important it did not compete with our conversation. The waffle sundae for two was excellent in fact they should consider adoing brunch because I have never had a better waffle. It was crisp outside moist and eggy inside. I am comming back and bringing friends.
