Critic Reviews

One fixed-price menu each night featuring the best products available. Short but reasonable wine list; servers are very knowledgeable and unpretentious. - Michael Bauer

I dined at the upstairs cafe because I did not want to capitulate my chance at menu selection to the kitchen on my first visit. I enjoyed great service and a good, but not great, three course meal. My first two courses - a corn and zucchini soup with herb butter and chicken breast with fava beans and stuffed tomatoes - did not disappoint. My dessert, however, was unimpressive; the boysenberry tart was burned and the accompanying scoop of ice cream lacked the smoothness one expects from a Michelin star eatery. I plan to dine at Chez Panisse again, hoping to experience a more august meal.
